Steph Currys impact on the 2021 Warriors

As you may have noticed Warriors star player Stephen Curry is having yet another great season currently launching 29.7 points, 6.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds on 64.6% TS. Outside from his outrageous numbers Curry not only is showing how impactful he is to Golden State but showing why he just might be the best offensive player in entire league...

Curry is having an historic offensive season and majority of his damage comes from that end. Per 75 possessions he is averaging over 30 points and is also leading all guards in TS%. With the defensive attention Curry gets his teammates such as Andrew Wiggins get to play more freely. As an example last season when Curry was out Andrew Wiggins got 47% of his shots open and yet that number has rose to 54% this year. (At the time of this writing) when Curry is on the Court Andrew Wiggins has a TS% of 56.9% which is about league average. However in the 600 minutes Wiggins has played without Curry on the floor this season Wiggins has a TS% of just 30.6%. Almost 27% below league average.

Let's take a look at how this would look like for some of Curry's other teammates:

Draymond Green TS% with Curry on the floor: 63.5% (5% above average)

Without him: 40% (17% below average)

Kelly Oubre TS% with Curry on the floor: 77.1% (20% above average)
Without him: 45.9% (11% below average)

Kent Bazemore TS% with Curry on the floor: 66.7% (9% above average)
Without him: 47.6% (9% below average)

All this plays a role in why Golden State sees such as drastic change in their offense when Curry steps out. When he's in the offense flows, players get less defensive attention, and they get more wide open looks. Proven by the fact that Golden state has a 115 ORTG when Curry is on. When he's off it drops 17.2 pts to 97.8/100. This would be 14.1 points below league average. One of the worst of all time.

To put this in better perspective without Steph Curry the Golden State Warriors have almost the exact same Offensive rating as the 2016 Philadelphia 76ers who went 10-72 that season. They have the worst offense of any team in the last 5 years when curry sits.

Curry proved a lot of fans wrong when they said he couldn't perform as the lone star on a team. But he still ranks at near the top of the league in most offensive stats currently sitting at number 1 in O-EPM with 6.8, leads the NBA in ORPM by far by 10.01 along with being 2nd in O-Raptor and 3rd in O-LeBron and 2nd in OBPM.

Curry has also provided big time play for Golden State in the 4th quarters. Which is important because majority of their games come down to the wire. Per 36 minutes in 4th quarters Steph Curry averages 44 points, 51.3% FG, 50% 3PT, 98.5% FT. Warriors still have time to make the playoffs and currently rank as the 10th seed just a few games behind the Spurs.
